Normally I wouldn't mention other real estate markets, but I just returned from a trip to New Orleans so this article in the Wall Street Journal caught my attention. From Newark it was less than a 3 hour direct flight on Southwest and I got tickets for $98 each way.  I asked everyone for recommendations for things to do and places to eat and of course everyone had a different experience. No one had a bad thing to say about their trip. Since the weather has been horrible this year in NJ it was refreshing to arrive into a cool 50 degrees and to enjoy the weekend with temperatures in the high 60's and 70's. I almost forgot what "warmth" felt like.

This time we tried out and rented a cute apartment in Mid City. It was located right next to the New Orleans Museum of Art and one block away from the cable car. The location was excellent as we got a true feeling what it is like to live there. We did all the touristy things such as the French Quarter, a tour of the Garden District (which I did see the actual house that is showcased in the article below) and we even drove a hour outside of town to visit Oak Alley Plantation (which is a must if you ever go).  Of course, we ate, and ate, and ate! There was the must dine at locations such as Commander's Palace, Palace Cafe, to the crawfish boil by the pound! Amazingly the best meal we had was actually around the corner from the apartment called Cafe Degas....a french bistro.  Hats off to the chef of this very TINY restaurant!
