Summer Fun In Hoboken

One of the many advantages of living in Hoboken is that there is always something to do. This is especially true during the summer, when city administrators plan numerous events and programs to ensure that Hoboken residents of all ages always have their calendars filled! Whether its sports, music, or spaghetti, there is something for everybody. For children looking to get competitive, Hoboken is offering programs in such sports as soccer, gymnastics, baseball, and basketball. For adults looking to break a sweat, tennis, table tennis, and basketball are being offered. In order to register, visit For those who wish to exercise outdoors with a beautiful view of New York City, Fitness at Pier A Park is being offered every Monday until August 29th. Classes differing weekly include CrossFit, UFC, kickboxing, and many others, even “Baby Boot Camp,” a full body workout for both expectant and new mothers! Fitness classes are also being offered under the Viaduct. If you wish to pursue a more relaxing way of exercising, free yoga and Pilates classes are being offered at Pier A Park on Tuesday nights starting June 7th until July 23rd and at Maxwell Place Park on Thursday nights beginning June 2nd and ending August 25th. Family yoga and Zumba classes are also being offered at Pier A and Elysian Park. There are sessions for families with children aged 0-9 months, 2-6 years, and 0-3 years.

There are also many events being offered at night! What would summertime in Hoboken be without Movies Under the Stars? MUTS begins Wednesday, June 8th and continues every Wednesday until August 17th. Movies this year range from Star Wars: The Force Awakens (June 22nd) to The Peanuts Movie (August 10th). So, this summer, grab a lawn chair or a blanket and come on out to Pier A Park on Wednesdays for a relaxing night of movie watching. 

As well as movies, there are also many concerts scheduled to take place along the Hudson River. Concerts In Sinatra Park begin on Thursday, June 2nd and they are every Thursday until August 18th. The highlight of this concert series is the annual Sinatra Idol Contest, in which contestants perform Sinatra-style songs and the best crooner is given a prize. This year’s Sinatra Idol Contest is on Thursday, June 9th. Other concerts include the Karyn Kuhl Band (June 16th) and Hoboken favorites Abbe Rivers and Gene Turonis (July 21st). Another iconic Hoboken event is the Guitar Bar Allstars, where guitarists from near and far come to Sinatra Park and attempt to break the world record for most guitarists playing the same song at once.

It is simple to see that Hoboken truly cares about providing programs and activities for its residents. When living in Hoboken, one should without a doubt reap the benefits that the city provides, especially the planned events over the summer. So, this season when your schedule is free, you should absolutely come to as many events as you can, and bring the family while you’re at it! They are sure to be fun and memorable nights for all.
