Typically, this is the time of year when homeowners who feel they are paying taxes that are too high, can file an appeal with the county to get a reduction, if applicable. In order for Hudson County residents to take advantage of the process, there are a few things that must be done.  Please see the info below on how to get your tax appeal started.

1. Go to the Hudson County tax site and download the tax appeal form:
http://www.hudsoncountytax.com/Forms/A-1.pdf
(If you have questions about how to fill out this form, feel free to email me directly at PaulKBryantJr@gmail.com)

2. If you have questions about what a tax appeal is and how you are assessed, you can find that info at the link provided. http://www.hudsoncountytax.com/html/taxAppealFAQ.aspx
3. You will need the tax rate and ratio for your specific city when calculating your figures. You can access that information at: http://www.hudsoncountytax.com/html/RatesRatios.aspx
4. Lastly, comps are the most important part of the tax appeal process.  You will need to provide 5 comparable properties to establish market value and adjusted assessed value. If you would like assistance with comparable sales from the specified date range (1/1/13 - 10/31/13), please email me directly at PaulKBryantJr@gmail.com.
Not all properties will qualify for a tax appeal.  By following the steps above, you can determine what your possible current assessed value is and if you should give it a shot.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Keep in mind, I am not a tax appeal attorney, I am just familiar with the process through previous tax appeal paperwork I have filed for past clients.
Good luck!
