Loew’s Jersey Theatre grand reopening
Jersey City runs about six versions of fall at once, roughly one per neighborhood. Downtown fills the Newark Avenue plaza. The Heights runs a Day of the Dead celebration out of its Sunday farmers market. Over on Pacific Avenue, the county throws a block party outside a brewery that started in a Hoboken apartment. And this year Journal Square gets something it hasn’t had in five years: the Loew’s Jersey Theatre, lit up again, with a grand reopening on November 13.
Between now and Thanksgiving there’s a citywide mac and cheese crawl, adults-only nights at Liberty Science Center, a rock show in a cemetery founded in 1829, and two big Halloween events on the same Saturday. Here’s all of it in order, every date checked against the organizer, the venue, or our own Halloween guide, with a link wherever the event has its own page, plus addresses and phone numbers for every stop.

Between October 29 and 31 the Heights unveils its Day of the Dead altar, Liberty Science Center turns into a 21+ costume party, and two neighborhoods throw daytime Halloween events on the same Saturday. After that, things slow down everywhere except Journal Square.

The theater opened in 1929 as one of Loew’s five "Wonder Theatres" around New York and closed in 2021 for a full restoration of its interiors, exteriors, and production systems. Five years is a long intermission, even for a movie palace. It returns as a live venue holding 2,600 to 4,000 guests, under general manager Bruce Wheeler, who previously held senior roles at Central Park SummerStage, the Beacon Theatre, and the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester.
You may already know the building from the movies: its marquee and the alley beside it appear in Joker, one of the productions in our guide to movies and TV filmed in Jersey City. The theater sits directly across from the Journal Square Transportation Center, so the PATH drops you at the front door.
Two weeks before Journal Square’s big night, the Heights hosts the city’s most meaningful fall celebration.

The 5th Annual Hudson County Fall Fest
Also on Saturday, October 31, on Pacific Avenue between Carteret and Forrest outside 902 Brewing Co., hosted by the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs. Expect trick-or-treating, train rides, obstacle courses, face painting, balloon art, glitter tattoos, sports games, local artisan vendors, and live music on two stages, rain or shine. Reserve tickets through the county’s Fall Fest page.
902 Brewing takes its name from the apartment at 902 Washington Street in Hoboken where its founders took their home brewing to the next level, which makes the Fall Fest the one Hoboken-to-Jersey City success story nobody in either city argues about.
For adults, the official Jersey City Halloween Bar Crawl starts at Boots & Bones on Halloween night. For trick-or-treating neighborhoods and the full weekend, see our Jersey City Halloween 2026 guide, and if you’re heading next door, our Hoboken Halloween 2026 guide has the Ragamuffin Parade route.
Costumes require fuel, and Downtown has one bakery that takes that job seriously.
Where Can You Get Fall Drinks and Pastries in Jersey City?
Downtown’s cafés have their fall menus out, and two are worth planning a morning around.
Downtown · Hudson Street
Maman
Maman, the French bakery and café on Hudson Street, has one of the fullest fall menus in the city: pumpkin pie, maple French toast, vanilla honeybutter lattes, and a glazed apple fritter iced matcha latte, plus a pumpkin pie croissant cube, a pumpkin spice carrot cake, and a spiced apple danish. It’s a natural first stop before a walk along the waterfront.
Harsimus Cove · Jersey Avenue
The Hive
The Hive brought its Hoboken formula to Jersey Avenue in Harsimus Cove, near Hamilton Park, kids’ play area included. The fall menu features a pumpkin brew (vanilla cold brew under pumpkin cold foam), a banana pancake latte, a brown sugar cinnamon chai, and a caramel apple matcha, which makes it the obvious coffee stop before a lap around Hamilton Park.
For produce, cider, and baked goods straight from New Jersey farms, the city’s two fall farmers markets are the better bet.
Where Are the Farmers Markets in Jersey City This Fall?
Jersey City’s two fall farmers markets are weekly markets that run all season rather than one-day events, one in the Heights and one Downtown.
The Heights · Sundays
Riverview Farmers Market
The Riverview Farmers Market sets up every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine, at Riverview-Fisk Park, 498 Palisade Avenue in the Heights. Its 2026 season runs from May 3 through November 22. It’s been running since 2010, when a skeptic at a community meeting told its founders farmers would never come to the Heights, and it matches SNAP and EBT benefits. "Rain or shine" in late November is less a promise than a dare, so bring gloves. Details are on the market’s site.
Downtown · Mondays and Thursdays
Historic Downtown Farmers Market
The Historic Downtown Farmers Market runs Mondays and Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Grove Street PATH Plaza, operated by the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District. It’s free to attend, with produce, baked goods, and local favorites for the week ahead.

And for the full pumpkin-patch experience, you’ll need a short drive north.
Where Can You Go Pumpkin Picking Near Jersey City?
The nearest full pick-your-own pumpkin patch is in Bergen County. Demarest Farms in Hillsdale is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for its 2026 season, and picking is booked online through the farm’s site. Closer to home, Hoboken’s free Movies Under the Stars night on Sunday, October 25 includes a pumpkin patch hosted by Alessio’s Cafe; our Hoboken fall guide has the details.
A few of the season’s biggest events have already happened, and they’re worth knowing for next year.
