When our clients are preparing to sell their homes, we tell them the easiest way to freshen up a space is a fresh coat of paint. Neutral colors will always be appealing to a high number of people, but with the right design, bold colors also make buyers swoon.
Whether you are planning to sell, or want to spruce up your space for your own enjoyment, why not try out a new color?
Every year, some of the biggest names in paint reveal their ‘color of the year.’ These colors, carefully selected by professionals, are expected to rise in popularity over the coming year. Take a look at the newest trends in paint!
Behr
Behr selected Canyon Dusk as color of the year. Portraying a grounding warmth that can only be found moments after sunset, the color offers comfort and inspiration. An earthy neutral, Canyon Dusk creates a relaxing atmosphere in the bedroom or living room, and can be paired with other nature-inspired colors.
Benjamin Moore
The soothing Aegean Teal is Benjamin Moore’s color of the year. The calming blend of blue-green and gray adds color to the home while remaining modern. Hannah Yeo, color marketing and development manager at Benjamin Moore, calls it "an intriguing blue-green that creates natural harmony and invites us to take a moment to reflect and reset."
Minwax
Minwax, a wood stain brand, selected a color of the year for the first time ever, and decided upon Vintage Blue. A mix of blue and green with gray undertones, Vintage Blue is soothing and can be applied to wood furniture, cabinetry, and shelving for a pop of color.
Pantone
Pantone mixed things up by selecting two contrasting colors: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow. Gray has been popular for years, and pairs perfectly with the bright and sunny yellow, for an uplifting and positive style. If you already have gray walls, you can do a quick restyling by adding pops of yellow for a fresh look in no time.
Glidden
With yet another twist, Glidden chose their first Accent Color of the Year with Aqua Fiesta. This cheerful aquamarine pairs well with Glidden’s 2020 color of the year, Whirlwind. This fun color can be used for an accent wall, furniture, or millwork.
Farrow & Ball
Farrow & Ball selected 12 colors for 2021 trends. The earthy shades are divided into four categories: “Rich and Warm,” “Clean and Timeless Blues,” “Natural Greens,” and “Earthy Tones.” Each color is a rich, natural color that aims to “convey a sense of ease of familiarity,” according to Joa Studholme, Farrow & Ball’s color curator.
Sherwin Williams
Sherwin Williams selected Urbane Bronze. The rich gray-brown neutral provides a grounded, down-to-earth feel. The color is meant to help you feel like you are one with nature, and can create a cozy atmosphere whether used on all four walls of a room or as an accent.
Rust-Oleum
Rust-Oleum, a spray paint company, chose Satin Paprika as their color of the year. A warm, earthy tone, this adds a pop of color to indoor or outdoor furniture and decor. This is great option for those who aren’t ready to commit to a new wall color, but want to spice things up.
